This was announced by the city mayor Anne Hidalgo on her Twitter account on Saturday.
“I am delighted that the government has agreed to set up alternating traffic on Monday,” she wrote on the micro blogging network.
Last year too, in a bid to control pollution, a similar measure was put in place in France for a few days as a result of which only cars with odd numbered license plates were allowed to circulate on a day.
The pollution level in Paris had risen to alarming level last week when for some time on Wednesday, the city was more polluted than New Delhi and Beijing.
The air quality index number of Paris on that day was 125. Anything above 100 is considered harmful.
This prompted the city administration to introduce some measures including free rides on public transport on Saturday and Monday. Implementing alternating traffic is a part of these measures.
