« We, Muslims of France, can only insist on the need for national unity in opposing this misfortune which has afflicted us and which attacks indiscriminately,” said Dalil Boubakeur rector of the country’s most important mosque.
Those “people who call themselves Muslims (…) should, by rights, be called barbarians,” added Boubakeur about the suicide bombers behind Friday’s attack.
Earlier this week the rector of the Great Mosque of Paris called all imams to lead faithful prayers for the victims. It will be “the best response to those seeking to instill the venom of discord and suspicion within the national community”.
There are about seven million of Muslims in France according to the French Council for the Muslim Faith (CFCM).
