Sarkozy proposes 2017 blueprint for the Republicans
Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy proposed a blueprint on Sunday at the close of the National Council of the Republicans which is to be transformed into a “collective project” of the party for 2017, following amendments and approval by members.

In his address, Sarkozy, who is the chairman of the party, said that the French expect clarity beyond the postures, calculations and afterthoughts.
“This applies to the issue of deprivation of nationality as well for so many other important issues for our country.”
“To a hesitant and wavering power must meet a determined and responsible opposition. The only concern that must guide us is that of the interests of France. Everything else must take second place,” he added.
He said that his party wants to protect and ensure the unity of the nation and the indivisibility of the Republic adding that innovation and digitalisation must be the country’s top priority.
“Republicans believe in the universal message of France, its role on the international stage. They wish that France continues to be true to his history of welcoming all who are oppressed for their opinions but require that it be done with respect for national identity,” he said.
Meanwhile, the convention once again showed the growing adversity within the party as Sarkozy's main opponents for the 2017 presidential candidacy, Alain Juppe, Francois Fillon and Bruno Le Maire chose to remain absent on the last day of the convention.
