5 French men killed in Spanish crash

Seven people, including five French people, died in a pre-dawn crash between two cars near the northern Spanish city of Figueres, close to the French border

According to Spanish officials, the collision occurred at Pont de Molins on the outskirts of Figueres about 25 kilometers from the border.

The Interior Ministry said all five people of a Volkswagon Golf car with French licnese were killed when it was hit side-on by a Spanish car in which two occupants died and one was seriously injured.

The ministry said not all the occupants had been identified but Spanish officials were in contact with the French and Moroccan consulates.

The accident happened at a recognized traffic danger spot and it appeared that no one in the French vehicle, who were between 19 and 22, had been wearing a seat belt.

Carles Puigdemont, the president of Catalonia, offered his "condolences and solidarity to the victims."
