Air France pilots call of weekend strike

Air France pilots have called off a strike scheduled for this weekend, averting what would have been the second strike during the Euro 2016 football tournament. The move comes after an intervention by incoming CEO Jean-Marc Janaillac.

"There will be no strike this weekend," Véronique Damon, head of SNPL Air France which represents 65 percent of the pilots, told the AFP news agency.

The two other unions who'd called for a stoppage on 24-27 June - Spaf and Alter - have also dropped the strike call.

The unions said they had decided to "accept the hand extended" by Janaillac, who proposed freezing new pay rules for a four-month truce. The pilots said that the pay scales would cut their salaries by five percent.

A strike on 11-14 June, which coincided with the start of the Euro, grounded about 20 percent of flights.
