The local council has received a letter from the tax authorities addressed to the woman at "Grave 24, Row E, Cemetery Road, Sarzeau", the mayor of the Brittany seaside town, David Lappartient, revealed this week.

Council treasurer Christophe Libre told Ouest France newspaper that it was a demand for property taxes.

"Unfortunately, it's not the first time we've had this sort of letter from the public finance centre in Vannes [the nearest large town to Sarzeau]," he told the paper.

He suggested that the address was a joke and may have been changed by one of the woman's heirs who hoped to dodge paying the taxes.

"You have to realise that it can be done online," Libre pointed out.
