France makes multinationals more responsible for respecting human rights

France has become the first country to adopt a law that requires French-registered multinational companies to take responsibility for their whole supply chain, including in their subcontracting companies in the developing world. Supporters of the new law say they want to put some order into what they call "the disorder" of globalisation. But already the law is being challenged in France’s highest court.
