Hello everyone!

Here’s this week’s quiz question:
There were legislative elections in Ethiopia this past week, and a landslide victory was claimed by …. which party? Send in the name of the Ethiopian political party that has claimed victory throughout the country in their latest legislative elections.

You have a long time to answer this question: until 26 July. The winners will be announced on the 1 August program - when I get back from vacation. I’ve cooked up some mighty fine summer Sound Kitchens for July, but there will be no quizzes on the July Sound Kitchens.

And guess what – you only have to send in the answer. You’ve been so great about sending in your recipes and proverbs – and don’t stop! – that I don’t have to make it a requirement anymore for the quiz …
Send your answers by Monday, 26 July to:

Or via e-mail:
english.service@rfi.fr
Attention: If you click on “Write to us” on this web page, your mail will not go where it is supposed to. It could easily get lost, so only use: english.service@rfi.fr for your quiz answers. And be sure you include a postal address!

I have enough recipes now that I can let the proverbial cat out of the bag and let you in on my secret – which you have probably guessed by now. We’re going to put together a Sound Kitchen cookbook, filled with your recipes - and your proverbs, too. Now don’t get complacent and stop sending them in, for we won’t put the book together for awhile. If you contribute, you will be the first to receive one. Later, we can use it as a prize for the quiz. I hope this idea appeals to you! I think it will be great.

I still want you to crowd into the kitchen and cook with me … I want you to write and tell me about people in your community who are doing good things. I want us to have a regular feature on the Club 9516/Sound Kitchen about “ordinary” heroes – the people in your community who are trying to make the world a better place …

Here’s something new: what will you read this summer? Send me your summer reading list – we’ll put it up on the web, so we can all share it.

I still want to hear about the weirdest thing that has ever happened to you, or that you’ve seen. Or … how about sharing your favourite guilty pleasure – mine’s chocolate - or your favourite thing to do on a Sunday afternoon, or your proudest achievement. Send in your musical requests and dedications, too. The Sound Kitchen is only fun if YOU are a part of it!

So, to your pens! Include a phone number, if you can. I’d like to call you and put you on-the-air – and send you an RFI CD. That’s right, you go on the air, you get a CD of music chosen by the RFI musical team - so don’t be shy! And be sure you tell me how to pronounce your name!
Send your thoughts to me at:
thesoundkitchen@rfi.fr
or, of course,  via “real” mail, at the address above.

Guess what? The Sound Kitchen is now podcast – able! To subscribe, go to our home page at rfienglish.com; up at the very top are tabs that say France/Africa/Culture/Sports, etc. Click on the tab that says “Broadcasts”. Scroll down until you see “The Club 9516/Sound Kitchen”, and click on the little red icon. A box comes up with the address, which you copy and paste into your podcast player.

If you have trouble figuring it out, my wonderful colleague Aidan O’Donnell has put up all the instructions you’ll need. From our home page, look over to the right for the “About Us”. There are a series of arrows, click on those until you get to “How to Listen to RFI in English”. Click on that, and you’ll see Aidan’s genius – even a techno-phobe like me can follow his simple and clear instructions! Look for “For help with podcasting, click here”, click, and you’ll have all the information you need to subscribe to the Club 9516/Sound Kitchen podcasts.

One last thing … don’t forget to look for the Sound Kitchen page on facebook. Take a look – and participate!

I look forward to hearing from you.
Susan
