Bomb kills ten in Pakistan market

At least ten people were killed and several more wounded when a bomb exploded in a busy market in Pakistan's Khyber region on Friday. The device was planted in a nearby ditch and timed to go off as crowds flocked to the weekly used car-market in Kuki Khel town.

"Ten people have been killed, there were three children among the dead. Fourteen people were wounded in the blast," local official Shafeerullah Khan told the AFP news agency.

Kuki Khel, located in the Tirah valley near the Afghan border, lies on the Nato supply route to Afghanistan.

Several militant organisations are known to be active in the tribal Khyber region, including the Lashkar-e-Islam group, which is accused of carrying out numerous kidnappings, shootings and attacks.

Pakistani security forces have recently carried out several military operations against Lashkar-e-Islam and other Islamist rebels in Khyber.
