Kankurang - the Mandingo must-have spirit

Among the Mandingo-speaking people in eastern Casamance and parts of Gambia, the kankurang is a spirit embodied by a masked dancer, regarded as the main custodian of Mandingo celebrations such as circumcision and marriage ceremonies. And the Mandingos believe that kankurang can cure infertility in women.
