Bahrain's Shia-Muslim-led opposition on Sunday announced a week of daily pro-democracy protests to last until after the controversial Formula One Grand Prix race next Sunday.
The protests will take place in Shia villages on the outskirts of Manama, including one on Tuesday near Bahrain's international airport, according to the Al-Wefaqbloc of parties that has for months spearheaded calls for democratic reform.
The government has become increasingly aggressive towards activists, journalists and the doctors who treat injured demonstrators.
