Cigarette packets around the world may be in for a makeover, after a landmark legal decision in Australia helps pave the way for plain packaging. Many health advocates believe that selling cigarettes in plain packets will turn people off smoking. But the tobacco industry argues its intellectual property rights will be violated if they lose their valuable branding. While the Australian government and anti-tobacco lobbyists are claiming a massive victory, not everyone in Australia is convinced the new laws will actually work.
