Syrian refugees flee to Libya

Issued on:

An estimated 70,000-80 000 Syrians are reported to have taken refuge in Libya since the uprising started in Syria nearly two years ago. More have gone to Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan. Most Syrians fleeing to Libya had either visited the country before the civil war or expected to find better work opportunities there. However, the majority of Syrians in Libya end up in the city of Benghazi, close to the Egyptian border. We meet several families who had recently arrived.
