Lebanese parliament looking to electoral reform

Issued on:

The Lebanese parliament is due to vote on two proposed ideas for electoral reform later today, ahead of an election scheduled for June. Tensions around the issue are running high, with the parliament due to decide during a special three-day session what the future voter system will be, as well as on a system of districting. Two proposals are on the table, but it is the so-called “Orthodox Law” that has proved controversial, as it would oblige every citizen to vote for a member of their own sect.
