The 28-year old Frenchwoman defeated German Sabine Lisicki on Saturday to claim the women’s title at the All-England club, along with 1.8 million euros in prize money.

After a short night of rest, Bartoli began a full day of media interviews, telling journalists the enormous win was just starting to set in.

“I received 198 messages. There was the [French] Prime Minister [Jean-Marc Ayrault]…I took time to reply to everyone. I spent a lot of time doing this but I have exceptional finger dexterity,” she joked.

When she does put her phone down, it will be to go and do a bit of shopping.

“I think I will go around shoe shops because that’s my little treat. I love very, very high heels. They’re terrible for my feet but I’ll suffer in silence,” she said.

“When I go into these types of shops, I almost have the same smile as when I lifted the Wimbledon trophy.”

But she won’t get her trophy to keep until after the traditional winner’s ball on Sunday night.

She is already worried about keeping the trophy safe.

“I’m going to call Amélie [Mauresmo, the 2006 champion and the last Frenchwoman to win a Grand Slam] and ask her: ‘Where did you put yours?’ I’m so scared that one day, I’ll come home and it won’t be there anymore. I’m going to put it in a safe place,” she said.

Bartoli will rise to world number seven when the latest player rankings are released on Monday.
