Parkour changing French attitudes on women in sport

Issued on:

Parkour is a sport or discipline invented in France: a way of moving in an urban environment - up and over walls and barriers - and it has caught on all over the world. But in France, women lag behind men in the world of sport. This isn't to say that there haven't been some impressive performances: Marion Bartoli snagged this year's Wimbledon tennis title, Lucie Décosse swept the 2012 London Olympics in judoka, and the women's basketball team got a silver medal there. But there is still less support and interest for women's sports than there is for men. RFI met a women's-only parkour group, which is trying to change the gender balance.
