The British driver, who notched up his fourth win in Shanghai, would have won by an even higher margin had it not been for the introduction of the safety car with just two laps left.

The race ended under the safety car which had appeared after Max Verstappen stopped his Toro Rosso on the pit straight because of engine trouble.

Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen finished fourth ahead of the Williams duo of Felipe Massa and Valteri Bottas. French driver Romain Grosjean finished seventh with Felipe Nasr, Daniel Ricciardo and Marcus Ericsson completing the top 10.

Hamilton, who started from pole position, now leads the championship standings with 68 points from three races.

He is followed by Vettel and Rosberg on 55 and 51 points respectively.
