The women’s final of Wimbledon saw a crushing victory for American player Serena Williams on the central court this Saturday.

Twentieth seed Garbine Muguruza was up against world number one, in what was Williams’ 25th Grand Slam final.

Williams won the first set 6-4, making a great recovery after an early break for Muguruza, and finished off the Spaniard with a second 6-4 set.

“It feels so good, it’s been a little while and I really appreciate holding it [the trophy]. Garbine played so well, I didn’t know it was over," said the champion after receiving the Venus Rosewater Dish.

"Don't be sad, you’ll be holding this trophy very soon, believe me,” she told Muguruza.

Now Williams only needs to defend the US Open to become the first woman since Steffi Graf in 1988 to claim a calendar Grand Slam.
