Late strike keeps Northern Ireland's Euro 2016 hopes alive

Northern Ireland are one step closer to their first major football tournament since the 1986 World Cup, following their 1-1 draw with Hungary at the Euro 2016 qualifiers.

It looked like visitors Hungary were on course for victory at Windsor Park but a late equaliser by Kyle Lafferty kept 10-man Northern Ireland's hopes alive for their first-ever European Championship finals.

Northern Ireland have two games left in their bid to qualify and some commentators say they're in a stronger position than the Republic of Ireland (who beat Georgia 1-0) to make it to France.

They remain top of Group F, and following their draw against Hungary, the team is guaranteed at least a play-off spot.

Elsewhere in Monday's qualifiers, Germany defeated hosts Scotland 3-2, Poland thumped Gibraltar 8-1 and Finland got the better of the Faroe Islands 1-0.

There were also scoreless draws between Romania and Greece, and Armenia and Denmark.
