Review board keeps Pistorius behind bars

Former Olympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius has been told he must remain in jail, after a decision to grant him parole was again delayed. The double-amputee is locked in a battle over whether he should be released early from a prison sentence for killing his model and law graduate girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.

A decision granting him house arrest was cancelled Monday, and referred back to a parole board to be reconsidered. No date has been set for a new hearing.

In a statement, South Africa's Department of Corrections said the review board concluded that Pistorius should undergo “psychotherapy“ as part of any parole conditions.

The 28-year-old was sentenced in 2014 to five years in prison for culpable homicide in Steenkamp's murder, which took place on Valentine's Day, 2013.

During his trial, Pistorius said he shot Steenkamp through a locked bathroom door after mistaking her for an intruder.
