Germany team takes shelter in changing room after France match

Germany players took refuge in their dressing room following their friendly match against France on Friday night at the Stade de France. Team managers decided not to travel after the match to avoid the possibility of being caught up in the search for the attackers who killed more than 130 people.

Germany's football team spent the night at the Stade de France after their friendly match against France rather than returning to their hotel following the attacks that left more than 130 people dead.

"The players were very worried, the information was not very clear and we didn't want to take any risk on the road," said Germany manager Oliver Bierhoff. "So we decided not to drive through Paris which wasn't 100 percent secured. We stayed in the dressing room."

It was a bizarre end to a frustrating evening for Germany who went down 2-0. Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud tapped in the opener on the stroke of half-time following Anthony Martial's dazzling piece of trickery on the left by-line.

Second-half substitute André-Pierre Gignac rose imperiously to power in a header past the befuddled German keeper Manuel Neuer.

The attacks at several locations in Paris erupted during the match at the Stade de France. One explosion at a fast food restaurant was heard inside the stadium. More than 130 people were killed in the attacks on Friday night which were claimed by Islamic State.

Bierhoff said the team had only learnt of the attacks when they were back in the dressing room after the match with players receiving text messages from worried family and friends. Bierhoff said the German football association would decide over the weekend as to whether the players were in the proper psychological frame of mind for the game against the Netherlands to take place.
