Napoli and Juventus surge on while Inter draw at lowly Verona

Inter Milan squandered their chance to rise to third with a 3-3 draw at bottom of the table Verona. The top two of Napoli and Juventus both recorded victories.

Inter took the lead after eight minutes through Jeison Murillo. Filip Helander levelled for the hosts five minutes later and then shocked their illustrious visitors on 16 minutes when Eros Pisano made it 2-1. Twelve minutes after the pause Artur Ionita added Verona’s third.

But that was as good as it got for the home side. Mauro Icardi and Ivan Perisic struck in the last quarter to reap a point.

Inter are fourth, one point behind Fiorentina but 11 points behind pacesetters Napoli who edged past Carpi 1-0. Argentina international Gonzalo Higuain with the goal from the penalty spot 21 minutes from time. Napoli are two points ahead of the champions Juventus who won 2-0 at Frosinone.

Elsewhere in Europe, Barcelona had to wait until stoppage time to secure their victory at foot of the table Levante. David Navarro set the visitors on their way mid way through the first-half when he scored an own goal. Despite the foothold, the champions could not find a way though Levante’s dogged defenders.

It was Barca’s four goal midweek hero Luis Suarez who added the coup de grace. The victory leaves Barcelona on 54 points after 22 games three points ahead of Atletico Madrid who have played one match more. Real Madrid are third.
