Four in a row for Rosberg after Russian GP win

Nico Rosberg scored his fourth successive win of the season after dominating the Russian Grand Prix at Sochi on Sunday. Lewis Hamilton made it a 1-2 for Mercedes while Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen finished a distant third.

It was a perfect weekend for the championship leader who started from pole and never lost the lead in the 53 lap race.

Though Hamilton again had to play second fiddle, he had a satisfying race given he started 10th on the grid at the start because of the engine failure he suffered in the qualifying session on Saturday.

The race began on a chaotic note as local hero Daniil Kvyat bumped into Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel twice which resulted in the latter crashing his car into the wall. The four-time world champion was one of the four retirees in the race, the other being Nico Hulkenberg, Max Verstappen and Rio Haryanto.

The other highlights of the race were the first points scoring finish for Renault and both Mclaren cars finishing in top 10.

Kevin Magnussen guided his Renault to a well-earned seventh place ahead of Haas’ Romain Grosjean who posted yet another impressive result for the debutant team.

The Williams’ duo of Valteri Bottas and Felipe Massa finished fourth and fifth ahead of Fernando Alonso of McLaren. Sergio Perez of Force India was ninth ahead of the other McLaren of Jenson Button.

With this win, Rosberg now leads the championship by 43 points over Hamilton.
