The 29-year-old Briton completed the week without dropping a set and slashed the gap on world number one Novak Djokovic to 915 points.

Bautista Agut, 28, eliminated Djokovic in Saturday’s semi-final. In that encounter, the Serb smashed his racquet and railed at the umpire during his error strewn demise.

Murray was not as generous with his mistakes against the Spaniard who was playing in his first final at a Masters series tournament.

The Wimbledon and Olympic champion won seven points in a row in the first set tie-breaker and broke Bautista three times in the second set on his way to the crown.

"The last few months I've played very well in all of the tournaments and obviously I'm happy to be back in the final again here," the 2010 and 2011 winner told the crowd.”

It was Murray’s 41st tournament victory and sixth this year.
