India strike twice to blunt England's recovery

England’s hopes of salvaging a draw in the second Test against India suffered a blow on Sunday when they lost two wickets near the end of play.

England captain Alastair Cook hit 54 runs as his side finished the fourth day of the second Test against India on 87 for 2.

Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja trapped skipper Alastair Cook lbw for 54 and Haseeb Hameed went the same way to Ravichandran Ashwin after surviving 144 deliveries for his 25.

England – having dismissed India for 204 – ended the fourth day on 87 for 2. They need 318 runs to win.

The tourists, who are unlikely to be targeting victory, have eight wickets remaining when the final day of play resumes in Visakhapatnam on Monday.

"There have been a lot of Test matches saved with teams going into the last day at two down and that's got to be our aim," said Stuart Broad on Sunday.

"We are very happy. We have given ourselves a great chance and if we can keep it quiet for the first hour of play tomorrow the pressure will grow on the Indian bowlers," he added.
