Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has often cited finishing second as the reason for so many last 16 exits as his side have been drawn against the likes of Barcelona or Bayern Munich.

Critics say that such teams have to be faced at a certain point if a side wants to lift the trophy in May.

Arsenal approach the fifth game in Group A having salvaged a draw at Manchester United on Saturday. France international Olivier Giroud came off the bench to power home the header that brought the point. Wenger said on the eve of the game that he had not decided whether to start with Giroud or Alexis Sanchez.

“Olivier has been out for a long time with an injury. He is ready now to compete again,” said Wenger. “He won’t be forever on the bench. He will start games and he will be on the bench sometimes like everyone else.”

Giroud was sent off when the sides drew 1-1 when they played at the Parc des Princes in September. Since then both teams have maintained their title challenges.
Even though Arsenal have won only two of their last five games, they lie fourth in the Premier League three points behind pacesetters Chelsea.

PSG, who are seeking their fifth consecutive Ligue 1 crown, are also three points off the lead.

PSG will be without their Ivorian defender Serge Aurier. He remained in France after British authorities refused to give him a visa because he is involved in a court case.
Uefa lobbied British immigration officials to reconsider their decision but to no avail.

PSG said the treatment showed disrespect to the club. Arsenal might suffer the French side’s fury.
