The mammoth target of 379 runs set by Australia proved too much for the New Zealanders who could score only 261 runs in their innings.

Opening batsman David Warner stamped Australia’s authority over the match with by scoring his sixth century of the year and his 10th overall in one-day internationals.

He was joined in the run feast by all rounder Mitchell Marsh who smashed an unbeaten 76 in just 40 balls and by captain Steve Smith who scored 72 off 76 balls.

In reply the New Zealand top order began on a positive note reaching 177 for two in 30 overs. However, they were never able to keep abreast with the required run rate.

The 125-run partnership for the third wicket between Kane Williamson and James Neesham was the highlight of their innings. However, after the partnership was broken, New Zealand lost the next seven wickets for just 85 runs.

Pat Cummins was the pick of the bowlers for Australia claiming four wickets for just 41 runs in 10 overs.

With this victory Australia have wrapped up the three-match series, following their win in the first ODI in Sydney on Sunday.
