Arsenal top group after win over Basel

Arsenal extended their rich Premier League form to the Champions League as they beat Basel 4-1 in their Group A encounter on Tuesday night.

Lucas Perez scored his first hat-trick for the London side that topped the group ahead of French champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Arsenal, who thumped West Ham 5-1 on Sunday, faced no difficulties in subduing the Swiss side as Perez scored his first two goals in the first half. The Spaniard slotted scored his third in the 47th minute to cap a memorable night.

Alex Iwobi scored Arsenal’s fourth before Seydou Doumbia notched a consolation goal for Basel.

PSG lucky not to lose against Ludogorets

In the other Group A match, PSG were held 2-2 at Parc des Princes by Ludogorets, who have now earned a place in the Europa League. PSG were lucky not to lose the match as the Bulgarian side took the lead twice.

Virgil Misidjan scored the first goal for the visitors but Edinson Cavani brought PSG level on the hour. Jonathan Cafu’s goal put Ludogorets yet again in the lead. However, Angel Di Maria saved PSG the blushes as he scored the equaliser in stoppage-time.

Napoli, Benfica qualify

In group B, Napoli and Benfica qualified to the next round after Napoli beat the Portuguese side 2-1 in Lisbon.

Jose Callejon and Dries Mertens scored goals in the second half to help the Italian club top the group ahead of Benfica who pulled a goal back through Raul Jimenez.

In the other big encounter of the bight, Bayern Munich avenged their loss against Atletico Madrid by winning 1-0 in Munich.

A superb free kick by Robert Lewandowski sealed the tie in Bayern’s favour. Atletico and Bayern had already qualified to the knock-out stage.
