RB Leipzig seek ninth straight Bundesliga win
Unlikely pacesetters RB Leipzig will expect to maintain their lead at the top of the Bundesliga on Saturday when they travel to bottom of the table Ingolstadt looking for their ninth straight win. Champions Bayern Munich are, by their lofty standards, in an abject position of second, three points behind the leaders.
Issued on:
Leipzig coach Ralph Hasenhuttl knows Ingolstadt's Audi Sportspark well. He steered the side for three years before leaving for Leipzig in July.
During his time with Ingolstadt, Hasenhuttl drove them to the top flight from division two in 2015 and then guided them to 11th place the following season. However, since his departure for Leipzig, the club’s fortunes have slipped. They fell to the foot of the division last week after a 2-1 defeat against Bremen.
By contrast Leipzig have been formidable. Unbeaten after 13 games, they have the best away record in the Bundesliga with five wins and two draws. And there are even more encouraging statistics. Of the 11 teams to have harvested 33 points or more after 13 games, nine have become champions.
Bayern Munich are poised to exploit any Leipzig gaffes. Bayern – who are seeking their fifth consecutive title – are at Wolfsburg who are 15th, two points above the relegation places. Hertha Berlin, who are third with 27 points, entertain Werder Bremen who climbed away from the relegation zone with last week’s win over Ingolstadt.
