Renoir's hat falls prey to drunk intruders

Paris’s Grévin waxwork museum suffered a break-in early on Monday when three drunk people made their way in at about 3am. The trio took advantage of building works around the entrance on the Grands Boulevards, which compromised security.

The men were able to get in to the museum simply by breaking some wooden panels.
They stole the Auguste Renoir’s hat and the képi (peaked cap) of Louis de Funès, one of France’s most famous post-war comic actors.

Security workers arrived and stopped them “before they could cause more serious damage”, according to a museum representative.

The police then arrested the men.

In a separate development, the US-Lebanese singer Mika has announced that he will unveil his own waxwork at the Musée Grévin next week.
