Slideshow + report: Giant puppets in Nantes

Surrealist street theatre company Royal de Luxe, known for the giant crane-mounted marionnettes sent marching through streets of cities around France and the world, put on a show in their home city of Nantes on 27-29 May.

Slideshow: Discover the giant marionnettes parade in Nantes

Drawing upon a trip to Guadalajara, Mexico last November, the new performance featured three creations: well-known marionette La Petite Géante was joined by new creation El Xolo, a hairless dog inspired by an Aztec god who accompanied the dead on their journey to the afterlife. El Campesino, a Mexican peasant, also made his first appearance. For three days, the giants walked through the centre of the city and drew of crowd of 600,000 spectators.
