Dieppe remembers bloody WWII battle

Issued on:

Seventy years ago the French costal town of Dieppe, in Normandy, saw one of the bloodiest battles of World War II. Nearly two-thirds of the 6,000 allied soldiers who stormed the beach on 19 August 1942 were killed or captured. Today the battle is seen as an important step towards the D-Day invasion two years later and an important date in Dieppe’s own history.
