Missing British boy Pierre Barnes's body found off French island
The body of Pierre Barnes, the 12-year-old British boy who disappeared on the French island of Porquerolles on Saturday, was found underwater on Thursday, local prosecutors said.
Issued on:
Boaters alerted authorities after they spotted the body by the small Mediterranean tourist island not far from the creek where Pierre Barnes's bicycle and shoe had been discovered, Toulon prosecutor Xavier Tarabeux told the AFP news agency.
"The body corresponds to the young boy who disappeared Saturday," he said
The boy had just arrived on the island with his English father, French mother and three siblings when he went out on his bike as winds barrelled at 130 kilometres (80 miles) an hour.
A search for him was called off on Wednesday.
An autopsy will take soon, Tarabeux said.
