Police in Paris took the pair, aged 36 and 28, in for questioning on Wednesday and hoped to bring them before a magistrate immediately.

They are believed to have caused about 8,000 euros-worth of damage by spraying graffiti on Paris métro and national rail network trains during their stay in France.

A search of their hotel room brought to light about 20 spraycans and digital photos of their handiwork.

Police say the two men were embarked on "inter-rail tourism" with the aim of spraying graffiti on trains across Europe.
