Security staff walked off the job on Friday, leading the SETE company that runs the city’s
best-known monument to close it and hundreds of tourists unable to visit.
Workers employed by two branches of the company responsible for security were demanding a bonus for working at the tower, a pay rise and the end to what they claim is repeated use of sub-contractors on the site, a union statement said.
SETE issued a statement deploring the action and complaining that neither the unions nor the security company had warned it that the strike would take place.
The security company opened negotiations with union representative on Friday morning.
The strike came as French railworkers continued a national strike for the third day.
