Say fromage - wikipedia appeals for French cheese-lovers' photos

Wikimedia France, a free online library of photos, has appealed for more photographs of French cheeses.

“If you consult Wikipedia, you might have already noticed that articles about cheese have only a few photos, if any,” says Wikimedia France.

So they have launched a drive to collect more such images. The operation will be financed through the crowd-funding platform kisskissbankbank.com.

The idea is to get those who contribute to meet once a month in the Paris Wikimedia office, where high quality photgraphs will be taken of ten cheeses.

Those attending will learn about each cheese, participate in a tasting session and then be encouraged to write articles about them on Wikipedia.

So far only 16 people have shown an interest and the sum of 555 euros has been collected but the organisers hope to reach a target of 5000 euros.

They expect the project, called wikicheese, to last about 18 months, after which time the equipment bought will be made available to the volunteers.
