Two people were killed late Monday night as violent storms hit the region of Tarn and Garonne in south-west France. Seven others were seriously wounded.

A woman aged 29 was killed when a tree fell on her car, injuring four others.

About 87,000 homes were still without electricity on Tuesday morning and roads were cut off by floods and many trees uprooted.

A truck driver was struck in a car park in the neighbouring area of Charente.

Nearby Toulouse airport and railways were disrupted on Monday night but returned to normal on Tuesday.

The beginning of school, due to start on Tuesday, is one day postponed in the Montauban area, near Toulouse.
