Hidden black history unfolds in Paris

Issued on:

There are a lot of things to visit in Paris, but what about going for a completely unusual tour around the city? Le Paris Noir walks (Black Paris walks) take you around the Latin Quarter on the left bank of the capital, where you learn about an entire generation of young artists who came to thrive... Leopold Senghor, Aime Césaire, and of course, Joséphine Baker are among those who shaped this history of Paris. Then the tour takes us to the more diverse Chateau Rouge area on the right bank where you discover a completely different side of both Paris and its history. RFI’s Clea Broadhurst took the tour.

Le Paris Noir takes us to Rue de Panama, in Paris's 18th district.
