Rebel groups in Sudan launch offensive

Issued on:

The main rebel group in Sudan says that it is launching an offensive on North Kordofan state. The Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North has been fighting for two years in neighbouring South Kordofan. The SPLM-North also says it shelled the aiport in Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan. And it appears SPLM-North fighters are supporting another rebel group, the Justice and Equality Movement, which launched a rare attack on North Kordofan at the weekend. To analyse the events, RFI spoke to Richard Cochrane, an analyst with Jane's Intelligence Weekly in London.
